The old Judgement Palace in Klunkung, Bali

Dear Reader,

today I invite you to visit the ancient kingdom of Klunkung in Bali with me and my friend Susan. On our first real day in Bali we took a semi-early (1 pm) private transport jeep to go on an air-conditioned trip around the island. Our first stop after a silver- and a batic factory, clearly geared at the foreigners budget, was the judgment court of the old kingdom. Located nicely within a floating flower garden we saw some traditional open air shelters, which supposedly were used to hold court. The inside roofs of those mini-island retreats were were colorfully decorated with action painints depicting the most common sins in the Buddhism culture. Lies were punished intuitively by cutting out the tongue, not respecting the elders made you lose your eye-sight and adultery was punished by cutting of critical body-parts of the failing gender.
Distracting us peacefully after the harsh historical input organized by our tour-guide and driver, we found the little xylophone and played some nice songs. No, we did not attract a huge crowd, otherwise we would still be there, earning our money with musical arts :-)

So, we needed to move on and overcome our averageness in producing nice wooden tones.
We did so over dinner not far away, overlooking the beautiful forest hills sneaking up Bali's highest mountain.

Have a nice afternoon,

Mat
